Join the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation for their 12th Annual Fundraiser on October 13, 2022. As the spread of COVID-19 forced the fundraiser to cancel in 2021, it makes this year’s Wild Night Fundraiser even more worthy of attending! The event is billed as, “a gathering of good friends, delicious Louisiana seafood, cocktails, and music, as we do our part to enhance and encourage public enjoyment and the use of the wildlife and fisheries resources in Louisiana.” This event is a great opportunity for families to come out and learn more about the Foundation and the work they do to support Louisiana wildlife and fisheries. So mark your calendars and come out to support a good cause!
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation (LAWFF) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization established in December of 1995 to aid the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The LAWFF’s mission is to raise awareness, foster enthusiasm, and support the protection of fish and wildlife in Louisiana by providing education, research, and management. This is accomplished by providing financial support to LDWF for their conservation and management efforts, as well as through public education programs.
The LAWFF works to develop and improve the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ youth recruitment, environmental education & training, and habitat conservation efforts. One program, the Louisiana Black Bear Program, has protected and restored more than 750,000 acres of the black bear habitat since 1992. Consequently, the number of bears has been on the rise, and a new sub-population has been established.
The Louisiana Natural and Scenic Rivers Program supports the Louisiana Natural and Scenic Rivers System, which was adopted by the Louisiana Legislature in 1970. The System was created with the primary goal of preserving, protecting, developing, reclaiming, and enhancing the quality and natural beauty of certain free-flowing Louisiana streams. Today, there are around 80 Louisiana streams and rivers totaling 3,100 miles that are protected by the natural and scenic river designation. Through river cleanup initiatives, monitoring activities that endanger protected rivers, and private donations, the LAWFF aids in this endeavor.
The Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries Foundation is committed to conserving the state’s wildlife and fisheries resources. As part of this effort, Cajun Encounters has partnered with the Foundation to offer educational, eco-friendly tours in Louisiana’s swamps. These tours provide visitors with a unique opportunity to see first-hand the beauty of Louisiana’s protected wildlife and habitats. The tours are led by knowledgeable guides who are familiar with the area and its wildlife. In addition, the tours give visitors the chance to learn about the importance of conservation and the role that they can play in protecting Louisiana’s natural resources.
