Our swamp boat tour with Cajun Adventures was an unforgettable experience! Captain Pat was phenomenal, combining deep knowledge of the swamp’s wildlife with humor and engaging storytelling. We spotted alligators, turtles, and birds, all while learning about the ecosystem from someone truly passionate about the environment. A big shoutout also goes to our bus driver, Derek, who made the ride just as enjoyable with his friendly demeanor and fascinating mini-tour, sharing insights into local culture and history. This tour is a must-do for anyone visiting New Orleans and looking to experience Louisiana’s natural beauty and charm!!

From pickup to the drive back, this experience was truly special! Justina, our bus driver, was a wonderful guide as we made our way through the city and to the swamp. She was prompt with pickup times, drove safely, and provided interesting facts about Louisiana along the way. Captain Scott, aka Swamp Ninja, was super informative and hilarious! We definitely got out money's worth, and then some! Don't miss out on this adventure!

Captain Emmett was awesome!! We surprised my mom with tickets for her birthday and she described it as “wonderful swamp fun” (direct quote). He answered every question, was full of jokes and information for the whole trip. 10/10 would recommend and the tour. We last minute decided to upgrade to the VIP tour and it was a great call, much more personal experience with fun extra tour spots. Thank you guys 🫡

Booked this tour after we were let down by Viator for a booking on the Steamboat Natchez. I'm so very glad we did. Our guide, Butch, was amazing! His local knowledge, wit and care were second to none. Have been on a lot of bus tours in a lot of countries but this was hands down the best!

We were picked up by Derek and he gave us a great intro to the area and where to go in the city. Dustin took us out on a small boat tour which was worth the extra cost. Less people, better dialogue. Highly recommend the tour to anyone. They don’t feed marshmallows too which is much better for the wildlife!

Awesome tour. Our driver Dwayne aka Pebbles was super fun and gave us really fun facts on our way to the swamp. Unfortunately we didnt get to see many alligators bc it was super cold almost freezing. They did recommend to visit during mid March were the fauna is more active. We did get to see turtles and racoons. Overall it was a lovely tour Highly recommend.

Had a great experience on my swamp tour, even in the middle of winter! I was lucky enough to get 70 degree weather, which brought out a few of the gators and lots of other wildlife. Our trip started off with a bus trip out to the bayou, and our driver Derek did a great job talking about the history of the city, as well as tips for visiting. Once we got to the site, there was a nice little gift shop area, as well as a little boardwalk that gave you your first glimpse of the swamp. After a bit we were separated into our boat groups and set off on our tour. Our boat guide Eddy was great, had a ton of knowledge about the area and all of the wildlife. The best part was when he called out loudly to George, which had us a little puzzled, until a raccoon popped out of nowhere! Eddy threw him some treats and explained all the raccoons responded to George, short for George Cooney. As mentioned, we did see a couple gators, but also saw tons of turtles, a few snakes, a couple raccoons, and lots of different bird species. Much more than I was expecting for a trip in the middle of winter.I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone in the area, it will add a lot to your trip and is well worth the price, I can imagine even more so in the warmer months.

our purpose

jeff rogers, owner of cajun encounters, standing in front of a cajun encounters tour boat in the honey island swamp

At Cajun Encounters we believe that we are more than a tour operating company. For over a quarter century, the founder and owner of the company, Jeff Rogers has operated a business that introduces people from all over the world to the wonders of the Louisiana Swamp. These wetlands are some of the most bountiful eco-systems in America and are also the most endangered. As company owner Jeff emphasizes, “The conservation of the Swamp is vital not only to the residential wildlife, but also has far reaching importance to wild species from as far away as South American and Canada – as a major stopping point for hundreds of migratory bird species.”

Cajun Encounters' operation is located on a pristine bend along the West Pearl River and acts as a launch site for custom tour boats to explore thousands of acres of sloughs abound with old growth Bald Cypress. This is a haven for alligators, river otters, Bald Eagles, Great Horned owls, the endangered Louisiana Black Bear and numerous bird species. Jeff explains, “We offer special programming for school groups and provide the students with an education and most importantly an appreciation of the wild beauty of a Louisiana swamp. This understanding and appreciation gives an eco-system like the Honey Island Swamp a fighting chance to survive for generations.”
